MSE supports drive for apprenticeships

We have always been strong supporters of apprenticeships. That’s why we were really pleased last week to hear the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) encouraging the Government to prioritise apprenticeships for young people in industry sectors with skills shortages – like ours.

A recent ECA survey found that almost half of electro-technical businesses (47 per cent) expect to be facing skills shortages by 2018.
The ECA has already raised this issue with Skills Minister, Rob Halfon MP, due to its potential impact on small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in our sector.
ECA director of employment and skills, Alex Meikle said: “We urge the government to ensure SMEs have the funding they need to train up the electricians and engineers of tomorrow.”
