Businesses and homes alike benefit from a variety of electrical installations. That might mean providing a facility for electric vehicle charging or making sure a building is properly protected.

Maintenance Services Electrical have recently completed work that demonstrates the variety of electrical services available, from commercial EV charging installation through to domestic fuse board upgrades.

EV charging that can create an additional income stream

Electric vehicles have become increasingly common. Businesses are assessing ways to provide facilities to all users of their sites. Customers, visitors, and employees all need a solution to make sure they can charge their own vehicles, or company cars.

Installing EV chargers at a commercial premises does not necessarily have to be seen as an unnecessary additional cost. Depending upon the installation and the system chosen, businesses can provide accessible EV charging facilities that allow drivers to pay for their use. For many, this creates an additional source of income.

For commercial premises with suitable parking, this can also provide an additional service for customers and visitors.
Of course, it’s not simply a case of putting down a charger somewhere in a carpark. There are several factors that must be considered before installing commercial chargers. The existing electrical infrastructure must be assessed beforehand to establish whether it can accommodate the demand. This means assessing the location of the chargers, cable routes, and available power as part of the installation process.

Proper planning is particularly important where a business is looking to install multiple chargers or expand its charging facilities in the future.

A tidy fuse board is about more than appearances

Maintenance Services Electrical’s second recent project involve upgrading the fuse board at a domestic property.

Fuse board upgrades might sound like the electrician’s bread and butter, but they are not always straightforward from a practical perspective. Existing cables are relatively short, thus working in a confined environment whilst keeping everything arranged makes achieving a neat finish considerably more challenging.

Josh, the electrician who completed the installation, did a fantastic job of producing a clean and well-organised result. Whilst appearance is certainly a worthwhile factor to consider, the more important element is what is happening inside the board itself.

Modern electrical installations require appropriate protection against an array of electrical faults. Residual Current Device (RCD) protection protects against shocks by detecting certain types of electrical leakage and then disconnects the supply.

Surge protection must also be considered. Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) are designed to help protect electrical equipment from transient over-voltages. These are typically caused by lightning, or issues and disturbances on the electrical supply.

Modern homes contain a plethora of sophisticated and expensive electronic equipment. Protecting the installation itself has become a critical part of keeping homes, and their residents, safe.

Electrical installations are changing

Both projects, whilst on the face of it seem very different, demonstrate how rapidly the demands on electrical systems are changing.

Businesses are more invested in looking at EV charging as part of their facilities or offering, whilst homeowners rely on increasing sophisticated electronic equipment and smart solutions. Both require their electrical infrastructure to provide adequate protection.

Whether it’s installing EV chargers at a commercial organisation or upgrading an ageing domestic fuse board, Maintenance Services Electrical understand that good electrical work is more than simply connecting equipment. It requires careful and thorough planning, protection considerations, and a safe installation designed around the requirements of the property.
