Maintenance Services Electrical Ltd (MSE) is excited and proud to support its presence in grassroots motorsport. Director Rob Jones prepares to return to Rebels Racing following a full rebuild of his stock car.
Rebels Racing, established in late 1994, was created around a clear and practical thesis. The organisation’s founders aimed to develop a full-contact racing series that required minimal repair and maintenance equipment. This makes the cars and racing accessible for drivers and spectators whilst still delivering high-impact competition. At the same time, the cars were designed with both size and aesthetics in mind. The Rebels Racing drivers will be able to keep their stock cars compact enough for easy storage and transport, and will take pride in their appearance.
It’s more than just shiny bodywork?
Each Rebel Racing car is powered by a dependable Reliant 850 all-aluminium engine, producing over 60 horsepower at 7,500 rpm. Pack this power into a lightweight build and you have a surprisingly rapid and vastly competitive racing machine.
Despite the adrenaline fuelled mania of the race, these cars have proven to be very robust. The basic trailing arm and rubber block suspension mean repairs are easy without the cost of expensive parts.
But Rebel Racing is not all about speed. The Ford Pop bodywork keeps nostalgia alive amid the 21st century track action. Whilst contact is allowed on the track, the safety record of the Rebel Class is exemplary. Long gone are the days of leaving your opponent’s vehicle cooling in the safety fence. Safety is built into the cars instead of simply being designed to save weight.
What happens on the track?
Rebel Racing events run on short oval tracks, typically over 15 laps of a quarter-mile circuit. Faster drivers start towards the grid’s rear to work their way forward to maximise action. It’s a structure that delivers close racing, frequent overtaking, and the exact kind of full-contact action the formula is known for.
Rebels Racing events are held across the UK, with driers competing at venues nationwide. Meets are held as far north as Lochgelly in Scotland, not to mention the drivers’ favourite excursion to Skegness on the east of Lincolnshire. The venue just outside Brafield-On-The-Green may be considered Rob’s home field.
It is within this competitive environment that Rob has built and impressive record over several seasons. His achievements include two Scottish Championship titles, alongside European, British, and World Masters honours, establishing him as one of the standout competitors in the series.
Follow and support us this season
The 2026 season has seen a later start than usual. It follows a complete rebuild of Rob’s vehicle, not tom mention the balancing work and personal commitments. But the rebuild is now complete and focus returns to getting that car back on the track to continue what has already been a highly successful racing career.
MSE’s involvement in the Rebel Racing season reflects the same values that are seen in their day-to-day work. It’s about precision, reliability, and a commitment to high performance whether on site or on the circuit.
