The results of a recent lighting redesign project for our client’s warehouse in Seaham, Co. Durham, speak for themselves.
With six new aisles of racking installed, their existing open area and emergency escape route lighting needed upgrading.
The solution
We designed and installed sensor controlled Collingwood RackBay units with onboard sensors and emergency packs. It’s easy to adjust the settings using a hand-held remote controller on the ground. The sensors have daylight harvesting functions which prevent them from activating when there’s sufficient natural light.
Lighting controls to reduce energy bills
Lighting can account for almost two thirds of warehouse energy bills. Logistics companies can make significant savings by using the latest energy-efficient lighting controls. Even small improvements can make a big difference to your costs.
Sensors. Movement and daylight sensors help reduce energy waste on lighting when spaces aren’t in use or there’s enough daylight.
Dimmers. You can tailor lighting according to needs and uses in different areas of the warehouse.
Remote control. Bluetooth connection allows you to control lighting in a large space without additional wiring.
Smart lighting. Users in different locations can control lighting easily via smartphones and voice assistants using Wi-Fi lighting controls.
Monitoring. You can monitor information about energy use remotely using internet of things (IoT) systems. You can even use artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically adjust lighting to save energy and provide comfortable light levels.
Saving money with LEDs
Modern LEDs are long-lasting, efficient and suitable for many different uses. They’re available for almost any size or type of light fitting. They’re more efficient than compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and turn on immediately at full brightness. For every traditional or halogen bulb you replace with an LED you can save between £1 and £4 per year. As LEDs are also long lasting, you’ll also reduce the cost of replacements.
LEDs come in a range of colours suitable for all types of workspaces, helping to reduce stress and improve concentration. Cool bulbs offer a sharper light suitable for detailed activities. Pure white light is close to natural daylight which is ideal for around the clock operations.
